This article highlights ICCF's land trust model: "Many #Michigan communities are looking internally for unique solutions to the staggering #housing shortage problem — a housing gap with nearly 35,000 units needed by 2027. One of these unique solutions lies in the idea of the community #landtrust." https://lnkd.in/gCwisVfP

It’s Earth Day! When we construct new homes, sustainability is at the front of our minds. Thanks to our friends at GreenHome Institute for their partnership in standardizing energy-efficient, green construction. #earthday #sustainability

Since our founding in 1974, #volunteers have been an integral part of our work! We simply could not serve so many families, renovate so many homes, or have such a large impact without the efforts of our many volunteers. During National Volunteer Week, we salute YOU! We talk about the Community Homes Initiative a lot around here. Purchasing 200+ homes from an out-of-state investor in 2017 was a big deal, and has allowed us to create many affordable rental and homeownership opportunities. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gqHX-3JS

I want to share about my experience working with ICCF Community Homes. When I moved back to Grand Rapids, I was incredibly blessed to be brought into the ICCF family as a Community Connector for Emerald Flats (one of ICCF Community Homes' mixed income housing facilities). My role is to be a resource for residents in need of assistance or guidance. I am also tasked to put on events for the residents in order to build community and encourage fellowship. When I moved into Emerald Flats- there was also a church community settling in the ground floor of our building. Madison North Church, a branch of Madison Square CRC in Grand Rapids, and Pastor Joy Bonnema were just beginning a fruitful partnership with Emerald Flats and ICCF. I cannot thank Pastor Joy and Stephanie Kammeraad enough for their amazing leadership, vision, and partnership with me. Together we began doing "Thursday night dinners" and putting on other fun events in collaboration with the residents of the building and members of Madison North Church. Over the course of the last two-plus years now we are truly seeing the results of what community building can do. -Everyone in the building knows each other by name and truly cares about one another -We have residents that are taking lead in planning, organizing, executing fun events to promote wellness in the building. This included a huge Christmas party, a door decorating contest that was massively popular, and a resident led bible study. -We resolve neighborly issues with respect and without use of violence or force -We are open and talk about how we want to improve to our building and community always. -We care for the building (a building that is listed on the National Registry of Historic Buildings) and the surrounding neighborhood. - I have become a member of the Highland Park Neighborhood Association, to be a representative of our community within the larger community. For me personally, this work has been a game changer in my life. For the first time in my professional career, I really feel a sense of purpose. It is so cool to look back and see how far we have grown. There are so many people whom I am grateful for allowing me this opportunity, and for guiding and encouraging me along the way. Thank you!
