We are saddened by the devastation from this past weekend’s tornadoes and strong thunderstorms in Nebraska and Iowa. Our thoughts go out to all affected. Serving our local communities is embedded in our identity and with a presence in Omaha, Neb., we are proud to be able to donate four-and-a-half truckloads of water, ready-to-eat snacks and cleaning supplies to those in need. We appreciate the collaboration with American Red Cross, Convoy of Hope and The Salvation Army in getting these products to those who need it most. Last month, our independent customer Community Markets experienced severe tornado damage to their store. Quick response from their team saved lives – and groceries! Within two weeks, store employees, SpartanNash Associates and community members reset and restocked the entire store for a successful grand reopening. Even as they prepared for the grand reopening, Community Markets still served their community by donating food, water and funds to local disaster relief efforts, and the store has rolled out grocery delivery services to impacted areas for a limited time. Happy Earth Day! 🌎 We’re thrilled to share more about our partnership with Home Repair Services of Kent County and Trex Company to convert plastic grocery bags into accessible ramps for five local veterans’ homes! How does it work⁉️ Each ramp requires approx. 157,500 recycled bags. This effort recycles plastics not typically accepted in standard recycling programs to create low-maintenance and durable composite decking projected to last years longer than traditional wood. We’re proud of this initiative and look forward to continuing to recycle plastic bags in our in-store recycling bins all year round.
