#Michigan is working to increase veterans' access and accessibility to the great outdoors. Today, Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Director Scott Bowen visited Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) to share with MVH #veterans the opportunities and benefits available to them through DNR, and opportunities to be excited about in the future. He was joined by Pete Eardley, commissioner on the Michigan Natural Resources Commission. Notably, he discussed their excitement over the proposed executive budget, which includes free access for veterans to all of MI's state parks, expanding veteran access to Michigan's great outdoors. Thanks, Director Bowen and Commissioner Eardley, for sharing your time with MVH and its veterans, and for your advocacy for those who've served. #puremichigan

About us
Michigan Veteran Homes (MVH) is the administrative entity that operates the state’s veteran homes on behalf of the Michigan Veterans Facility Authority and is a branch of the Michigan Department of Military and Veteran Affairs. MVH strives to ensure that quality long-term care is provided to the veterans and their eligible family members that live within the Homes. High quality care for this phase of life is central to the “member for life” concept that DMVA embraces. The MVH operates the Michigan Veteran Homes at Grand Rapids (MVHGR), the Michigan Veteran Homes D.J. Jacobetti (MCHDJJ) in Marquette and the new Michigan Veteran Homes at Chesterfield Township (MVHCT).

It’s never too early for #veterans to start planning for the “what ifs” of life. Terms like "advance directives" and "advance care planning" are a lot to take in and consider. There are resources to support veterans and their loved ones in preparation for – and through – those challenging journeys of life, and planning for the “what-ifs.” VA's Advance Care Planning via Group Visits Program: https://lnkd.in/eXMM_FQG National Institute on Aging: https://lnkd.in/gpYAQUbz https://lnkd.in/eFtxWgwf #longtermcare #veterancaregivers

Michigan Veteran Homes provide skilled nursing care to #veterans at locations in Grand Rapids, Marquette, and Chesterfield Township. However, it’s more than exceptional care and quality of life for veterans. We're partners in our communities, and our history in caring for veterans dates back more than 135 years. We're proud to continue that commitment of service. Our veterans were there for us throughout history – in times of peace and conflict – and now we’re there for them. Community members are invited to be part of that commitment, too. -MVH at Chesterfield Township is hosting their Annual Remembrance Walk and 5k on Sat. May 11. Quality of life is just as important as quantity of life. Many would argue it’s more important. At Michigan Veteran Homes, we’re blessed to be able to enrich the lives of #veterans in countless ways - through the generosity of many, many volunteers, donors, community partners, and other supporters. It takes a village to serve those who’ve served us. It’s not the years. It’s the miles. #longtermcare #community #giveback https://lnkd.in/eXG59qsR
